Who We Serve

Profile of a Participant

At Exceptional Foundation Gulf Coast (EFGC), we strive to provide meaningful social and recreational opportunities for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Every individual has unique abilities, strengths, and support needs. To ensure a safe, enjoyable, and successful experience for all Participants, we work to determine whether our program structure, facilities, and staffing can appropriately accommodate each individual's needs.

To participate in EFGC's programs, individuals must be able to:

  • Manage personal care needs: Independently manage daily self-help activities, including toileting, eating, and personal hygiene. Mobility aids, including wheelchairs and walkers, are welcome.

  • Participate in group activities: Follow simple verbal directions and engage in activities with minimal assistance.

  • Participate safely in a group setting: Navigate an environment that may include noise, movement, and other sensory stimulation.

  • Maintain a safe environment: Participate without behaviors that pose a risk of harm to themselves or others.

Staffing & Support Needs

EFGC is not equipped to provide dedicated one-on-one care or continuous individual supervision. Participants must be able to participate safely within our group setting with the level of support our staff can provide.

Who We Serve

EFGC welcomes individuals with a wide range of diagnoses and abilities, including Down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury (TBI), fetal alcohol spectrum disorders, microcephaly, intellectual disabilities, and other developmental or acquired disabilities.

We recognize that a diagnosis alone does not define an individual. Each person's abilities and support needs are unique, and we encourage families to contact us to discuss whether EFGC is the right fit for their loved one.
